چکیده
Abstract The Endangered giant pangolin Smutsia gigantea is rare and elusive across its Central African range. Because of solitary nocturnal nature, the species difficult to study so ecology little known. Pangolins are considered most trafficked mammals in world. Therefore, confirming presence accurately monitoring trends distribution abundance essential inform prioritize conservation efforts. Camera traps popular tools for surveying cryptic species. However, non-targeted camera-trap surveys yield low camera-trapping rates pangolins. Here we use data from conducted within three protected areas Uganda test whether targeted placement cameras improves detection probability occupancy models. results indicate that highest when camera on burrows. median number days deployment first event was 12, with majority events captured 32 deployment. interval between at a site 33 days. Deep Learning Object Detection Methods for Ecological Camera Trap Data
Deep learning methods for computer vision tasks show promise for automating the data analysis of camera trap images. Ecological camera traps are a common approach for monitoring an ecosystem’s animal population, as they provide continual insight into an environment without being intrusive. However, the analysis of camera trap images is expensive, labour intensive, and time consuming. Recent adv...
متن کاملAn Open Standard for Camera Trap Data
Camera traps that capture photos of animals are a valuable tool for monitoring biodiversity. The use of camera traps is rapidly increasing and there is an urgent need for standardization to facilitate data management, reporting and data sharing. Here we offer the Camera Trap Metadata Standard as an open data standard for storing and sharing camera trap data, developed by experts from a variety ...

متن کاملStatus of the Advanced Camera for Surveys
The Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS), installed in the Hubble Space Telescope in March 2002, will significantly extend HST ’s deep, survey imaging capabilities. ACS has met, or exceeded all of its key performance specifications. In this paper we present an introductory review of the in-flight performance of the instrument.
متن کاملCamera trap arrays improve detection probability of wildlife: Investigating study design considerations using an empirical dataset
Camera trapping is a standard tool in ecological research and wildlife conservation. Study designs, particularly for small-bodied or cryptic wildlife species often attempt to boost low detection probabilities by using non-random camera placement or baited cameras, which may bias data, or incorrectly estimate detection and occupancy. We investigated the ability of non-baited, multi-camera arrays...
